Your gift will benefit current and future generations of students, residents, and visitors to the greater Woodstock area for years to come.

The Woodstock Elementary School is currently raising funds to address a critical need: upgrading the outside play and learning areas of the school. This playground is a central feature in the beautiful village of Woodstock. Thanks to the generous donations from the local community, the playground was rebuilt to become a nature-based playspace in 2014.

We were thrilled to have such a unique space for our students to play. After five years of use by students, the community, and visitors, our playground has endured significant wear and tear. We are also at an exciting growth point. We now provide full-day preK programming. In addition, this year we welcomed K-6th grade children from Bridgewater and Pomfret, and 4th-6th graders from Reading. As the use of our grounds increases, maximum usable space and well-functioning equipment is essential.

We are again counting on the generosity of our community and friends to make our outdoor space welcoming, safe, and enjoyable for all of our students and community users.

Short Term Improvement Goals

Summer/Fall of 2019

Once completed, the short-term improvements will increase space for ball sports, remove obstructions from the small playing field, improve drainage to open up areas of the playground earlier in the springtime, create an auxiliary sandbox, and update three elements: Rylant’s Roost treehouse, the swingset, and the climbing wall.

Our immediate goal is to raise $8,000 to fund these improvements through a combination of grants and private donations.

Long Term Improvement Goals

Our long-term goal is to raise $60,000 for projects that will further increase access and enjoyment through a boardwalk system to stabilize trails and mitigate erosion, install turf on our small playing field, install a climbing structure, and add a slide to the treehouse.

Please support this important project; your contribution in any amount is greatly appreciated.

3. Make a gift via cash or check

Donations to the project in any amount via cash or check directly to the WES PTO are welcome.

Want to get involved?

There are many opportunities for parents and other community members to contribute their time to this effort. We are on the lookout for individuals willing to help in the following ways:

  • Assisting with grant writing and seeking donations to fund long-term improvements

  • Creating and volunteering on a Playground Stewardship Committee to help with annual maintenance projects such as coordinating with Woodstock Garden Club to restart stewardship of gardens, painting in the treehouse in the summer, weeding gardens and grounds in the summer, and coordinating and assisting with fall and spring clean up days.
